It's All In The Eyes


The last few years I've become fascinated by the eyes of a special shape balloon, after I've seen the episode Ballooning of the Dutch program Skybound.

There they showed how a special shape was made from the drawingboard until it's first flight. The man talked about how difficult it is, when you have to design the faces.

The expression of mouth and eyes has to be right (he used Rupert the Bear as an example) because most of those shapes are build after a character. The expression has to be friendly, you don't want people to be scared of it. That's why I try to make snapshots of the eyes because there is so much detail in them, and so many work goes in it to making them right.
